What is this club?

The Common Room Social Clubs are local city hangouts for 18-30’s who are over digital noise and looking for a real-world communities to belong. Whether you are a uni student, new to the city after an interstate move, or have just landed from overseas, this is a space to find your feet with people who actually care.

To be clear: we aren’t a dating site, a singles’ mixer, or a “hustle culture” networking group. We skip the superficial “surface-level” posturing that often makes social events awkward. Instead, it’s a chilled environment where you can be honest about your journey and explore big questions .. life, purpose, and meaning—without the weird pressure or institutional expectations.

What actually happens at meetups?

We keep things simple. We catch up over coffee (or whatever you want) and just chat. The goal is for friendships to form naturally while we’re out and about, rather than sitting in a stiff circle in a room.

While the focus is on the social / hanging out, these meetups are a safe space to talk about the bigger things in life, like purpose, meaning, hope and meaning —for those who are curious. You can expect a relaxed vibe where you can meet new people, chat and listen to other’s perspectives on life beyond small talk and the superficial.

Who actually runs these clubs?

The Common Room is an initiative of SeeSalt, an Australian ACNC registered not-for-profit. Groups are run by local volunteers from mainstream churches in your area. (Anglican, Baptist, Catholic etc..). They are everyday people—students, tradies, and professionals—who are passionate about meeting new people and building community.

Even though the vibe is casual, we take your safety seriously. Our events are a safe space, our volunteers are trained in healthy boundaries and there’s no weird vibes, so everyone feels secure and welcome.

What if I no longer want to come?

There are zero strings attached. If you decide a club isn’t your vibe, you can simply head off at any time without any drama. You don’t even have to say goodbye (though that would be sad! ) We aren’t here to hassle you or spam your inbox.

We respect your data privacy and only keep the bare essentials needed to get you connected. We take Australian privacy laws seriously, so if you ever opt out, we stop contacting you —no questions asked.

Is this a religious thing?

Nope, not at all. Whilst we are a Christian not for profit, this is not a religious community. It’s made up of people from all sorts of backgrounds—some identify as spiritual, some are skeptical, and many don’t identify with any religion or belief system at all. We think life is better when you have real-world connections and a safe space to talk about the things that actually matter. Whether you have a specific faith or none at all, you’re exactly who this club is for.

Is there a "hidden agenda" to these clubs?

Nope. This is not a “bait-and-switch” deal. We’re over that too. While our volunteer hosts are from local mainstream churches, our social clubs are exactly what it says on the tin: a social club. Our goal is simply to build genuine community in a city that can often feel lonely.
